Frequently Asked Questions
Who can join Phi Mu Alpha?
To be eligible for membership in the Beta Omega chapter, a candidate must be a male student currently attending LSU with an interest in music. Anybody with a strong interest in music can apply including first semester freshman!
Do I have to be music major to join?
No, but candidates should have a strong interest in music.
Do I have to be in an ensemble at LSU to join?
No. While many brothers are, it is not a requirement.
What type of fraternity is Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia?
Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia is a music fraternity for men. Sinfonia is a social fraternity both legally and philosophically. However, sometimes confusion results from an incorrect assumption that Sinfonia is a professional fraternity. Professional fraternities serve to advance a particular profession and its members within that profession, and as dictated by the United States Department of Education (Education Amendment Act of 1972, Title IX), professional fraternities must be co-educational, meaning that both males and females may hold membership.
I've seen Phi Mu Alpha sing before, but I can't hold a tune. Can I still join?
Yes! You do not have to be able to sing well to be a part of Phi Mu Alpha.
How do I join Phi Mu Alpha?
The Beta Omega Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha holds informational smokers at the beginning of the fall and spring semesters. To learn more about us, be on the look out for those meetings. To learn more you can contact the Fraternity Education Officer, Brother Robert Dowie.
